Our Purpose
We assist disabled and needy war veterans and members of the United States Armed Forces to participate in golfing activities and opportunities that may not be sponsored by other golfing organizations designed to help veterans.
With these benefits it is our vision that through golf, veterans will increase their independence and improve their attitudes towards health and thus enriching their lives, and providing social and recreational activities for our members.

Commissioner
Herman “Herm” Lugge
Hi, I am the Commissioner of the Arlington Greens Veteran's Golf League located at Arlington Greens GC near Granite City, Illinois. I grew up and presently live in Belleville, Illinois. I graduated from Belleville East High School in 1970 and from SIU Carbondale with a degree in Park and Community Recreation in 1974. I started my career in the Recreation Therapy Dept at the St. Louis VA Medical Center back in 1979 as a Recreation Therapist and eventually was selected as the Chief, Recreation Therapy Service in 1988. My relationship with Veterans has always been strong. I enjoyed myself as both a therapist and supervisor of Recreation Therapy Services at the VA for 36 years until my retirement in 2015.
My relationship with Veterans went beyond my job, as I enjoyed many recreational activities like fishing, canoeing, golfing and family gatherings with them over the years. One day back in the summer of 2012, I started golfing with 3 veterans once a week at Arlington Greens GC near Granite City, Illinois. We then started a golf clinic at the St. Louis VA with the assistance of our Adaptive Golf Instructor Dany Baker and Jerry Hitzousen from the University of Missouri, which later became the first PGA HOPE Clinic in the country. With the assistance of Mark Marcuzzo, the PGA Professional at Arlington Greens, we started an official league at Arlington Greens GC that same year. In 2019 the Arlington Greens Veteran's Golf Association was founded to sponsor the golf league. This relationship between the league and association has been a tremendous partnership that has benefited countless Veterans over the past many years.

I was in the Marine Corps in 1970-71. After that I managed men's clothing stores for 40 years. I've been married for 51 years, have 3 sons and 5 beautiful grandkids. I've been playing golf for 45 years and some of the most fun I've had is playing with the veterans in our league.
